Towards Responsive Museum Governance in Turkish Museums
Today, it is often emphasized by international organizations that local citizens should be encouraged to take part in shaping the cultural heritage policies, and that inadequate community engagement is the primary governance problem. Besides, the cooperation between central government, local governmental units (LGUs), private sector and Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is regarded crucial to harness the potential of public museums. However, this understanding necessitates a transformation in museums' organizational structure and mission. This book discusses these changes with a special focus on Turkish public museums.
